Officially, there are only two medical systems in China. One is Western (Conventional) Medicine and the other is Traditional Chinese Medicine. Using Qìgōng to treat illnesses is called Qìgōng Therapy. Because many Qìgōng Therapy methods are evolved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine’s (TCM) methods of treating illnesses, many people consider Qìgōng Therapy as a branch of TCM. In fact, many TCM books have detailed descriptions on using various Qìgōng methods in treatments. Although many theories such as Yīn-Yáng theory, and Meridian theory are the same in both TCM and Qìgōng, TCM and Qìgōng Therapy do not belong to the same system. They each have their own unique approach in diagnosis and treatment.Qì (Qìgōng) diagnosis requires Qì intuition and Qì application ability. Not all practitioners are able to acquire the ability to perform Qì diagnosis. On the other hand, Qì treatment can be done by practicing Qìgōng or using External Qì. Therefore, Qìgōng treatment with Qì diagnosis is called Qìgōng Medicine, without Qì diagnosis it is called Qìgōng Therapy, which is widely used in TCM. There are many writings on Qìgōng therapy, but not on the theory or diagnostic methods. This book has seven chapters, the first five chapters describe Qìgōng Medicine’s theories, diagnostic methods, treatments and training methods. Qì diagnosis requires Qì intuition and Qì application ability, and these abilities are obtained through Qìgōng training for most practitioners. The outcome of the Qì therapy is dependent on the practitioner's Qì cultivation (the quality and quantity of Qì they possess). Therefore, the first five chapters of this book contain many detailed training methods in both diagnosis and treatments. Chapter Six focuses on Zhìnéng Qìgōng External Qì Treatment. Using Nature Qì instead of one’s Dāntián Qì to facilitate healing is an innovative approach; it is a hallmark of Zhìnéng Qìgōng. Chapter Seven describes the causes and the preventions of some Qì reactions and Qì sensations one may experience when one practices Qìgōng and meditation. Read more
